TJ the mantis
« on: January 10, 2016, 07:56:35 PM »

A friend of mine who is ill gave me his mantis, tank and associated equipment.

Down to just 3 tanks and that seemed like more than enough but I am enjoying the new project. I have removed most of the hair algae and I'm keeping the pest nems and soft corals.  The wife loves taking pictures of him.  Been with us just 11 days now.

More shots and a FTS.

This is his standard "Defend cave at all costs!" posture.

Full tank shot with corals that came along with it.  Added 3 damsels.  Maybe they are quick enough not to become snacks.  Going to add some more soft corals down the road when I'm sure the cycle from moving is done.  This was taken on day 3.  Still algae everywhere.

TJ is sexy!  Nice tank, too.  Sorry your friend is ill, though!

Me too Amy.  Thanks for the post.  Re renamed the mantis in his honor.
Trish tried some macro shots.  I have not sorted though them yet.

Always wanted a O. scyllarus. Nice to see you are giving the guy a good home Howard.

The damsels should be fine but you never know. My old G. chiragra mantis used to snag chromis while they slept along the sandbed. I'd  wake up the next morning to find 1 less fish in the tank

Quick TJ update one year later.  He molted once. That was interesting. He is on live clams now mostly.
He also has a brand new 75 reef ready tank that is cycled.  Moving day soon.

Nice  *thumbsup, glad to hear he's doing well.
Was hoping to see one on a very recent trip to the Great Barrier Reef but alas didn't see any mantis shrimp. Let alone O. scyllarus.
